Ready for the off

A few of us popped down to the Southdown & Eridge hunt meet at Hickstead earlier today. They've got a lovely day for it, the sun is shining and the sky's doing a good job of staying blue. We were even allowed to partake in the food, although the whiskey macs didn't come our way - good job really as we had to come back to the office.

Horsemart having a ball

Well, Friday night saw the Horsemart team at the Southdown & Eridge Hunt Ball in Lewes. All the gals looked gorgeous in their posh frocks, and Tim cut a rather dashing 007 figure in his tux.

There was dining, drinking, bagpipes, men in kilts, and an old lady with enormous feet. The team also did a fine job of strutting their funky stuff on the dance floor, with several moves hitherto unseen outside of captivity.

Let's get this tow on the road!

Our very own Sam P starts her trailer training on Wednesday, so that she can be let loose on the roads to tow our Horsemart trailer to all the various shows we're attending this season. (Watch this space for more details, or visit our Facebook Group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5612353809).

I'll be popping down on Monday to take some piccies of Sam in her first lesson, just to really put the pressure on.

Good luck Sam, you'll be fab!

A grand day out

Well, as promised, yesterday Sam and the two Sarahs were allowed out of the office and went on a jolly to BETA.
Sam and Sarah W had the tough job - watching the fashion show, wandering around looking at all the goodies, sampling fishy treats at the Champagne & Seafood bar. Sarah E's mission, which she had the good grace to accept, was to indulge in back-to-back meetings with lots of companies, and generally spread Horsemart goodwill throughout the NEC exhibition hall.
We are happy to report that there are many exciting products out there for us horseriders, from shiny saddles and sparkly bridles, to groovy jods and and jolly jackets. Autumn/winter 2008 looks to be a great season for the horse lover.
Look out for forthcoming issues of Horsemart magazine this year, which will feature many of the products we saw - who knows, you may even get a chance to win some of them!

Horsemart race winner

We managed to get hold of this great photo, taken by Ginni Beard, of the winner of the Horsemart Intermediate race at the Godstone point-to-point, which we attended last Sunday.

The race had nine runners and was won by the favourite, Nick Pearce on Merry Vic.

You can't beat BETA International!

Working at Horsemart isn't all about manning the phones and staring at computer screens - sometimes we're allowed out! This coming Monday, the two Sarahs and Sam are off to BETA International. Sarah E will be meeting up with lots of lovely PR people, and Sarah W and Sam have their eye on a seminar or two and the fashion show. There's also talk of a champagne reception...

For those of you who aren't familiar with it, BETA International is the world's foremost equestrian and country trade exhibition. Folk who work in the industry go to find out about all the goodies available, so we can come back and tell you all about all the latest and best horsey things for you to own and use.

So watch this space, we may well have some hot tips for you by this time next week!

Surrey Farmers Drag Point to Point

Despite a couple of minor setbacks (Sam was busy and Sarah was poorly) we still managed to rustle up a representative at the Godstone P2P. Laura, or as she shall now be known, 'Johnny on the spot', not only turned up to man the stand, she even presented a prize!

Laura (pictured) reports:

"The meeting was really well attended and a good time was had by all.

"The first race was won by David Robinson, who at 66 is the oldest licensed jockey in Britain, on Bee An Bee, who is also trained by David.

"The Horsemart Intermediate race had nine runners was won by the favourite Nick Pearce on Merry Vic, who ran a fantastic race.

"It was a great day, and the weather, I am thankful to say, was superb!"

Be safe on the roads

There has been talk on our forum (http://www.horsemart.co.uk/forum) recently about road safety - not just about riders being aware of motorists, but also making drivers aware of riders who have to take their horses on busy roads.

The Department for Transport has published a leaflet that addresses this, in conjunction with the BHS, as part of their Think! campaign. You can downlaod them for free from http://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/campaigns/horsesense/

Point-to-point at Godstone

This Sunday, 10th Feb, at Godstone in Surrey, we'll be attending the Mid-Surrey Farmers Drag Point-to-point.

Not only will we have a stand, we're also sponsoring the fifth race - the Intermediate, which runs at 2.50pm.

The first official race is at 12:30pm, but there are pony races before that. So if you want to enjoy a fantastic day out, with the added bonus of meeting us (!), why not come along?

Meet the team

We popped down to Plumpton Agricultural College recently to have our piccies taken for the magazine. And what a lovely-looking bunch we all are, despite some being more camera-shy than others!
Despite the grey clouds that threatened a downpour, we remained dry, if slightly chilly, for the time we were there. And as is the way with these things, just as we were leaving, the sun came out...
